About Us

Who We Are

PTRA is an organization of off-road motorcycle enthusiasts dedicated to promoting and preserving the dual sport motorcycle trail system in Bald Eagle State Forest.

Working closely with PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), PTRA evaluates and maintains dual sport trails in the heart of Central Pennsylvania. It is our goal to not only maintain but to continue expanding single-track trails on public land.

PTRA advocates to state legislators on behalf of the Dual Sport and Off Highway Motorcycle community to increase OHM access on state lands.

PTRA is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization. All membership dollars are spent preserving and promoting off road and dual sport motorcycling in Central PA.

Our Approach

Our Mission

To better meet the needs of the riding public and to reduce conflicts between recreational, community, and environmental stakeholders

To work with PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to improve the development, planning, maintenance and construction of public dual sport and single track motorcycle trails.

Our Vision

For Off-Highway Motorcycles (OHMs) to have equal amount of public trails as All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs).

The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) develops and maintains 267 miles of diverse ATV trails for recreational use within the Commonwealth’s forest system. Only 1 of the 11 ATV trail systems are open to off-highway motorcycles (OHMs).

Our History

In April 1973, a very energetic guy named Wally Crawford decided to form an organization that would organize all the off-road riders and clubs that were scattered across the state. In May, a handful of dedicated people met in Harrisburg, formed the Pennsylvania Trail Riders Association, and incorporated it as a non-profit corporation.

In 1994 we started our annual 7 Mountains Dual Sport Adventure ride.

Over the decades PTRA has evolved into it current format with the objectives and goals off preserving the sport for future generations to enjoy.
